Timecode in GrandMA3
Description
Timecode automation brings precision to your cue execution, especially in high-production environments or synced music moments. While it’s not required for every show, using timecode in GrandMA3 lets you pre-record every action—down to the frame—so you can focus on transitions and creative direction during service.
Understanding Timecode Structure
A basic timecode workflow uses:
Timecode Viewer – to see events on a timeline
Timecode Pool – stores individual timecode tracks
Timecode Slots – monitor incoming timecode signals
Once assigned, timecode slots let you watch external timecode feed in live so you know your show is locked and ready.
Creating and Recording Timecode
To begin:
Select a timecode pool object
Hit Setup, then tap Record
Play back your music and press GO on your cues in real time
Each cue press becomes an event on the timeline, stamped at the exact moment you triggered it.
Editing Timecode Events
Post-recording, you can:
Rename track groups (e.g. “LX Track,” “Video Track”)
Adjust events with encoder wheels or by dragging
Select and nudge multiple events for precise sync
Delete or re-stamp cue hits as needed
The left-hand tool bar provides editing shortcuts—hover with a mouse or tap to see descriptions in the command line.
Running Timecode in a Show
Before playback:
Make sure the Timecode Pool is Listening (green play icon and blue bar confirm it's active)
Timecode will auto-trigger cues in sync with your track
You can trigger this from an external device (via LTC, MIDI, or software) or simulate it internally for rehearsals.
Why Churches Might Use Timecode
Tight musical moments (e.g., opener videos, programmed music transitions)
Multimedia synchronization (lights, video, lyrics)
Volunteer support—minimize manual cueing in high-pressure moments
Timecode gives you confidence in execution. If the band runs to click and you want your visuals locked to that grid, this is your solution.
