File Management in GrandMA3
Description
Backing up and managing show files is crucial for a reliable programming workflow—especially in environments where multiple operators or systems are involved. Whether you're working on a console or using onPC, knowing where your files are saved, how to access them, and how to export key elements ensures a smoother experience.
Saving and Loading Show Files
Saving to a USB stick or internal drive follows the same logic across platforms:
USB Structure: Plugging a USB into a console or PC will automatically create a
GrandMA3folder. Inside, you'll find asharedfolder with ashowsdirectory where.showfiles are saved.Backing Up Internally: On Windows, files are stored in
C:\ProgramData\MA Lighting Technology\. Make sure hidden folders are visible to access this path.Mac Users: The file structure is nearly identical once you locate the MA Lighting Technology folder.
To retrieve or store files, navigate to the Backup menu and select your desired drive from the dropdown—either internal or a USB stick.
Library and Exported Objects
All exported data like fixture profiles, macros, and views live in the library folder. Objects from the desk—such as presets and sequences—are saved under data pools.
If you're working with external files like GDTF or MVR, they will also be found here.
Auto Save and Quick Save Tips
Within the Backup menu, you can turn on auto save and set the interval that works for your team. The default is off, but setting it to 30 minutes or less is highly recommended for live environments.
A quick way to save your file is by tapping the menu button twice—this executes the "save show" command immediately.
