Programming a song in GrandMA3 starts with creating a clear structure. Begin by making blank cues for each section of the song—intro, verse, chorus, bridge, and so on. This gives you a roadmap and makes it easier to stay organized as you build the look.
A helpful approach is to start with the chorus. Build it out fully since it’s usually the biggest, most impactful moment. Then, work backward—subtracting elements in earlier cues to build tension and momentum leading into that chorus. This creates a dynamic flow that supports the musical energy of the set.
Use presets as the foundation for every cue. Whether you're setting position, color, or dimmer, rely on presets instead of adjusting values manually—you should almost never need to touch the encoder wheels during programming. This keeps your looks consistent and easy to update later.
Finally, be intentional with how you label your cues. Use names that make sense to your team or volunteers—labels like “Chorus – Big,” “Verse – Downstage Only,” or “Bridge – Color Shift” help everyone follow along easily in a live setting.
