MATricks unlocks next-level fixture control in GrandMA3 by letting you break a selection into powerful subgroups—like odds/evens, symmetrical patterns, or randomized sequences. It pairs perfectly with your selection grid and is essential for clean phasers, spatial effects, and advanced programming.
What Is MATricks?
While groups define your selection, MATricks defines your sub-selection. It works by segmenting fixtures across the X, Y, and Z axes—adding structure to how your values get distributed.
Open the MATricks window alongside your selection grid to see both in real time. Grid, Layer, and Shuffle options help you visualize and adjust your sub-selections on the fly.
Key Concepts
Next / Set Navigation: Pressing Next moves through X+, while Set Next navigates Y+—perfect for moving around a 2D selection grid with structure.
Block: Clusters fixtures into “chunks” (e.g. 2 by 2), useful for repeating looks across sections.
Groups: Think team assignments—fixtures alternate across teams and cycle through selections based on how many groups you define.
Wings: Create symmetrical selections by “folding” your rig—great for mirror-image effects and movement.
X-Width: Similar to groups, but changes how fixtures are laid out in the grid rather than how they’re selected.
Shuffling Fixtures
Enable Shuffle to randomize fixture selection across any axis. Use the global shuffle button or enter a specific shuffle number to repeat consistent looks across different groups of fixtures.
This is especially useful for LED walls, pixel mapping, or creating randomized effects that still feel intentional and repeatable.
Why It Matters
MATricks isn't just a programming trick—it’s a core part of how GrandMA3 thinks about structure and timing. If you’re working on effects that need to play evenly across fixtures, or you want tight visual symmetry, MATricks is the tool to get there.
