The Pocket 6K camera offers a range of recording options, allowing users to capture footage in various formats and resolutions. From RAW video to ProRes, this camera provides flexibility for different production needs. The menu system is comprehensive, covering everything from frame rates and resolutions to dynamic range settings and time-lapse options.

Recording Options: RAW vs ProRes

The Pocket 6K gives you the choice between Blackmagic RAW and ProRes recording.
  • Blackmagic RAW offers more latitude in post-production, similar to RAW photos.
  • ProRes is a widely used video format in the production world, providing straightforward video files.
With Blackmagic RAW, you can choose different bit rates. An 8:1 or 12:1 compression is usually sufficient for most shoots, while higher quality options like 3:1 are available for VFX work.

Resolution and Frame Rate Settings

The camera's native resolution is 6K, but it offers various other options:
  • 6K 2.4:1 for a cinematic aspect ratio
  • 5.7K, 4K DCI, 3.7K anamorphic, and 2.6K options
  • Frame rates from 23.98 fps up to 60 fps for slow-motion
It's worth noting that 6K recording is only available in Blackmagic RAW. ProRes tops out at 4K DCI, but it still utilizes the full 6K sensor, downscaling to 4K.

Additional Features

The Pocket 6K includes some handy extras in its menu system:
  • Dynamic range options: Video (Rec.709), Extended Video, and Film (log) modes
  • Built-in time-lapse mode
  • Detail sharpening controls
  • Vertical recording options for social media content
These features make the Pocket 6K a versatile tool for various shooting scenarios, from cinematic projects to quick social media content creation.
