Transition Types

101 Video Directing & Switching

Description

Video switchers have multiple types of transitions. Jeremy and Rusty dive into transitions for video directing. Explore cut, dissolve, wipe, and more. Learn how to change the speed of a transition, adjust keyer transitions, and to use a t-bar when transitioning.

Key Points:
  • Cut transitions are hard “cuts” from one shot to another
  • Wipe transitions are a “reveal” from one shot to another
  • DVE transitions place one shot on top of another in the Y axis, and slide down to cover up the previous shot

Pro Tip: when using transitions on multiple sources (for example cutting between a clean shot to another that has lyrics keyed in) be sure to select what you would like to cut next. This will make sure that your keyed in lyrics stay on screen while you continue to cut cameras.
