Mindset for Leading Worship

In this video, we explore why authentic emotion matters more than outward expression when leading worship. People naturally empathize with what a leader is genuinely feeling—and if the leader doesn’t feel the truth of the song, the congregation won’t either.

We identify two common barriers to authenticity: fear of man and trying to impress. Both shift focus away from God and replace real belief with imitation, resulting in emotions that feel forced rather than true.

Using the analogy of a good actor, this video challenges worship leaders to do the emotional work of genuinely believing what they sing, so that what’s expressed points people to God and not the leader.
