Blackmagic Recorders

Blackmagic’s recorders are widely used in broadcast environments. Specifically, the HyperDeck series that includes the HyperDeck Mini, Studio HD, and Studio 4K. They integrate well with ATEM Mini switchers and Video Assist monitors. Choose the one that works best for your needs.

HyperDeck Mini

The HyperDeck Mini is the smallest model in the HyperDeck series, ideal for compact setups where space is limited. They are commonly used in broadcast racks for recording program cuts, clean feeds, or individual camera feeds.
  • Recording Options: Records onto SD cards or via USB-C to an SSD, supporting both SDI and HDMI inputs.
  • Power Flexibility: Can be powered via IEC, 12V power, or power over ethernet (PoE), making it adaptable.

HyperDeck Studio HD and 4K

The HyperDeck Studio HD and 4K models are designed for more demanding recording needs, offering additional features and higher resolution support.
  • Recording Media: These models support recording onto SSDs, SD cards, and now offer M.2 internal recording for seamless backup if external storage fills up.
  • Resolution Capabilities: The Studio HD handles up to 1080p HD, while the Studio 4K supports up to 4K resolution, catering to different production requirements.
  • Codec Support: Both models can record in H.264 and H.265 for web output, as well as ProRes for high-quality post-production.

ATEM Mini Switchers

The ATEM Mini series, primarily designed as video switchers, also doubles as recorders. They are ideal for smaller productions where a separate recorder might not be feasible, as it combines multiple functions in one device.
  • USB-C Recording: Allows direct recording onto an SSD via USB-C, providing an all-in-one solution for switching, recording, and streaming.

Video Assist Monitors

Blackmagic’s Video Assist monitors offer both recording and monitoring in a portable package, available in 5-inch and 7-inch models.
  • Recording Media: Records onto SD cards or via USB-C to SSDs, similar to the HyperDeck series.
  • Dual Codec Support: Like the HyperDeck, Video Assist monitors support both ProRes for editing and H.264 for web use.

Network Storage Recording

A new feature in the HyperDeck series is the ability to record directly to network storage, streamlining the post-production workflow. If your network is fast enough, you can record directly to a network storage device, eliminating the need for file transfers and making your footage instantly accessible on your server.
