Tips for Directing a Sermon

Regardless of how many cameras you have, directing a sermon can be simple. Rusty Anderson talks through what he prefers when directing a sermon, and introduces some new ideas you can implement with your team.

Key Points:
  • If your camera ops take breaks during the service, try and introduce everyone being live during the sermon instead. This will give the video director more options to cut to, and will increase the value of your broadcast!
  • Making sure your team understands what you’re asking for when you say “waist up” or “medium shot” will help save time and frustration during the sermon.
  • Let your pastor dictate what shots you’re taking. Following what they’re doing will help keep the viewer engaged.
