When Mic’ing a drum kit, it’s important to keep the drummer in mind to allow them to play their instrument to the best of their ability. Phil Bledsoe walks through his process for mic’ing a drum kit from the very beginning.

- Make sure to ask your drummer if they are comfortable where you place your mic’s.
- We want to amplify a comfortable and confident drummer, not one that is making compromise.
- Tidy up your cable runs!
- Clean is fast, and being able to quickly find cable runs is helpful. Keeping cable runs tidy helps to speed up any troubleshooting you might face.
- When using two kick mic’s try to make sure they are lined up in a vertical plane. This helps with phase issues, and makes the kick drum sound more impactful.
