dLive Ecosystem Overview

The Allen & Heath dLive series of consoles is incredibly expansive. The S series and C series both have the same functions but serve two different purposes. For this course, Michael uses the dLive S5000 which is designed as a touring console with redundant features. You would most likely see a C5000 or other C model in churches. Michael highlights the features of the dLive series of consoles and explains the system’s versatility and power in different live sound environments.

Inputs and Outputs

The dLive series of consoles, whether the S or C type, are designed to handle a wide range of inputs and outputs. The S5000 has up to 120 inputs and 64 busses available for significant flexibility. These busses can be configured in various ways to suit specific needs.

Ultra Effects Chip

The dLive system can be upgraded with an Ultra Effects chip, expanding its capabilities with eight additional stereo effects returns. This upgrade also introduces new features that previously required external processing.

Expansion and Redundancy

The dLive system supports expansion through additional stage boxes and I/O capabilities. The S Class, which includes the S5000, also offers additional redundancy with an extra power supply and gigahertz port, making it deal for critical applications like touring.

Multi-Surface Support and Files

Multiple control surfaces can use a single stage box. This is particularly useful for dividing tasks between FOH and monitors. Additionally, dLive has file interchangeability across different models and desks to ensure a seamless transition between setups.

Stage Box Level Processing

All processing occurs at the stage box level. Even if the control surface fails during a service, the audio continues to pass without interruption. Remote control options are available through the director app and software.
