Pixelmapper in Avolites
Description
The Pixelmapper in Avolites allows users to create dynamic, pixel-based effects by treating lighting fixtures as individual pixels in a larger design. This tool makes it easy to apply animated shapes, colors, and patterns across a lighting rig, similar to how content is mapped onto an LED wall. Unlike traditional shape effects, the Pixel Mapper provides deeper control over color mixing, dimmer intensity, and layered animations, making it a powerful tool for worship services and live productions.
Applying Pixel Mapping to Fixtures
The Pixel Mapper works with any fixture that has color mixing (such as LED washes) or dimmer channels. Even fixtures without full color-mixing can still participate, as the console automatically adjusts their dimmer intensity to match grayscale versions of the effect.
To get started:
1. Select fixtures to be used as pixels.
2. Open the Pixel Mapper Editor and create a new effect.
3. Choose a shape (e.g., fan blades, spirals, or custom designs) and map it across the fixtures.
4. Apply animations, such as movement, rotation, or size scaling, to bring the effect to life.
Customizing Effects and Color Control
Unlike other effect engines, the Pixel Mapper allows for independent background colors while the mapped effect remains unchanged. This means:
• The effect itself (e.g., a moving spiral) stays the same regardless of background color changes.
• Background colors can be adjusted separately for better color consistency in a worship environment.
• Pixel effects can be stacked across multiple layers for intricate, multi-step animations.
Hand-Drawn and Text-Based Effects
For full creative control, users can hand-draw effects directly in the editor, allowing for unique, real-time animation possibilities. Additionally, the text function—while not intended for legible words—creates chase-style effects that are difficult to replicate with traditional programming methods.
Saving and Reapplying Pixel Effects
Like other effect engines in Avolites, Pixel Mapper effects can be saved as palettes. Once created, an effect can be applied to any group of fixtures, making it easy to adapt across different lighting looks without reprogramming from scratch.
